What they do

JustLeadershipUSA trains people who have been incarcerated or otherwise directly affected by the criminal legal system to lead advocacy and policy work. Its core program, Leading with Conviction, is a twelve-month cohort training for formerly incarcerated leaders, with an Emerging Leaders track and an advanced track on board governance, finance and organizational management. It has organized jail-closure and decarceration campaigns, including #CLOSErikers in New York, and set a stated goal of cutting the U.S. correctional population in half by 2030. Founded in 2014 by Glenn E. Martin; led since 2018 by DeAnna Hoskins, herself a program graduate.
