The Equal Justice Initiative is a nonprofit law office in Montgomery, Alabama that represents people who were wrongly convicted, unfairly sentenced or condemned to death, including children sentenced as adults, and works to end mass incarceration and excessive punishment. It also runs public-education sites in Montgomery, the Legacy Museum, the National Memorial for Peace and Justice and the Freedom Monument Sculpture Park, and a Community Remembrance Project documenting racial-terror lynchings. Founded in 1989 by Bryan Stevenson, author of Just Mercy.
