What they do

NACDL is the national membership association for criminal defense lawyers, public defenders, military defense counsel, law professors and students. It provides continuing legal education through its CLE Institute, publishes The Champion magazine and practice manuals, files amicus briefs, and runs issue projects including the Fourth Amendment Center, the Full Disclosure Project on discovery, the Return to Freedom Project and the Restoration of Rights Project. Its charitable arm, the NACDL Foundation for Criminal Justice, funds education and reform work. Founded in 1958 in Chicago by about 100 attorneys.
