The terms for using this site

1. The agreement

These terms are between you and Justice Impact, which operates this site. By using the site you agree to them. If you do not, the remedy is simple: do not use the site. Theprivacy policy is part of these terms and explains what happens to information you give us.

2. What this site is, and is not

Justice Impact is a media platform: a podcast, an online magazine, a directory of organizations working in criminal justice, and, as it is built, a professional network. It is built in public, so parts of it are unfinished and say so.

It is not a law firm, a social service agency, a government office, or a referral service. It does not represent you, take your case, place you in a program, or act on your behalf with any organization listed here. Nothing on this site creates an attorney-client, counselor-client, or any other professional relationship.

3. Not legal advice

People on this site talk about the law: attorneys, advocates, and people who have been through the system. What they say is reporting, commentary, and their own experience. It is general information, not advice about your situation, and it may be out of date or wrong for your jurisdiction.

If you are facing an investigation, charges, sentencing, incarceration, or reentry, talk to a licensed attorney in your jurisdiction. Deadlines in criminal matters are real and short. Do not delay because of something you read or heard here.

4. The directory

Each listing is a description we wrote from what the organization publishes on its own website, with the sources we used shown on the listing and a date we last checked it. It is our summary, not the organization's own statement, and it can go stale: programs close, addresses change, leaders move on.

• A listing is not an endorsement. We list organizations because they are doing work in this field, not because we have vetted their services, finances, or outcomes. Where we have a relationship with an organization, the listing says so.
• Verify before you rely. Confirm any detail that matters to you with the organization directly, especially eligibility, cost, and whether a program is still running.
• Organizations can correct us. If you represent a listed organization and something is wrong, or you want the listing removed, write tohello@justiceimpact.com and we will act on it.

5. The magazine and the show

Stories and episodes are editorial. Guests and contributors speak for themselves, and their views are not necessarily ours. Where a story is drawn from the public record, the sources are listed at the end of it. We correct errors when we learn of them; tell us at the address below.

6. What you send us

When you fill in a form or email us, you agree that what you send is accurate and yours to send, and that we may use it for the purpose you sent it: to email you if you signed up, to consider and contact you if you applied, to answer you if you wrote. If you send us a story, a tip, or a suggestion for the directory, you agree we may act on it and, if we publish anything from it, that we may edit it. We are not obliged to publish or respond to anything.

The founding host program has its own terms, discussed directly with each attorney before anything is agreed. Nothing on this site is an offer to enter that program.

7. Our content and your use of it

The text, design, logos, show artwork, episodes, and directory descriptions on this site belong to Justice Impact or are used with permission, and are protected by copyright and trademark law. You may read, listen, link to, and share a link to anything here. You may quote a short excerpt with attribution and a link back.

You may not republish, copy, or redistribute the content in bulk, use it to train a model or build a product, or remove our name from it. Podcast episodes may be played through any podcast app that carries the show; they may not be re-uploaded elsewhere as your own.

8. Acceptable use

Do not:

• Scrape, crawl, or bulk-download the directory to build another directory, list, or database.
• Submit forms with false information, or in someone else's name without their permission.
• Use the forms to send spam, or use automated tools to submit them.
• Probe, overload, or interfere with the site or the systems behind it.
• Use the site to harass, threaten, or defame anyone, including anyone we write about.

Ordinary search-engine indexing of public pages is fine and expected. We may block access that breaks these rules without notice.

9. Other sites

The directory links to hundreds of pages we do not control, and the show is distributed through platforms we do not control. A link is a pointer, not a guarantee. Those sites have their own terms and privacy practices, and we are not responsible for what they do or say.

10. No warranty

The site is provided as it is, and as it is available. We work to keep it accurate and running, and we make no promise that it is complete, current, error-free, or uninterrupted. To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement.

11. Limits on liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, Justice Impact and the people who work on it are not liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss arising from your use of the site, reliance on anything published on it, or dealings with any organization listed on it. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid us to use the site, which today is nothing.

Some jurisdictions do not allow some of these limits. Where that is the case, they apply only as far as the law permits.

12. Changes to these terms

When these terms change in substance, we update the effective date at the top. Continuing to use the site after that date means you accept the change. We do not change these terms retroactively.
